he sent a baby

Over 400 years in slavery – God’s people cry out – and he sends a baby.

A baby can’t do much to rescue you from slavery. The people were looking for a strong power to come and rescue them – no one really even noticed the baby. He eats. He poops. He fusses. In this case he fusses so much that his mom has to put him into the Nile and float him up stream.

How is this a plan for redemption?

Pharaoh had already ordered all male babies killed upon birth. And honestly, when it came to having your child murdered at birth, or having him grow up and have his flesh afflicted by the whips of Egyptian taskmasters, his back broken in slavery and his life ended early, neither future could have been easy to stomach.

But God’s people were in slavery and he sent a baby.

So let me ask you, where are you? What have you been praying for? Has God sent a baby as an answer?

Something so small, so insignificant, that it might be easy to overlook?

It is impossible to take small steps of obedience when we’re holding out for a big break. So many times we sit in search for a huge answer – a huge next step – and God sends us a baby. A little thing to pour ourselves into, to develop, to grow. And before we know it, that baby leads us places we never dreamed we would go.
